Guilt and Shame Together

Shame overstays,
at the wrong address.
It’s ugly sister,
guilt, shamefully
drops by,
unexpected,
for quick
pithy visits,
often when
you’re entertaining
invited guests.
Just know,
our families
have never
gotten along.
Guilt and Shame
both have
the audacity
to address us
as “You” and as “I”!
I say to them,
“Where were you
before I chose to do
what you would
never have done?
In  Schenectady?”
